Sweet memories from the first Masterclass SRC 2021 which was held in Split, Croatia. It was the RC sailing event which couldn’t be stopped even by COVID19! Yes, we had to postpone it few times because of lockdowns and anti-travel pandemic measures so lots of IOM sailors were forced to quit in last-minute literary, but now that we started with the first Masterclass SRC successfully, expect us in much bigger numbers next time, that is for sure! Sailboat RC was delighted to meet friends from Hungary, France/USA, Italy, Sweden and Croatia and they will be remembered dearly as they truly showed the passion and spirit of professional RC sailors! So, we decided to share some photos and videos from the very event which was held in our hometown of Split, the centre of the Dalmatia region in Croatia which is a super famous vacation destination in the world. Check it out!

The main focus was on completing two major tasks: theory part around IOM sailboats (K2 IOM’s mostly) and practice where all IOM sailors were under Zvonko’s mentoring directly on the water. We tried to go through many details and Zvonko Jelacic (current IOM World & European Champion) was tutoring 1 on 1 and the whole group as well. So many ideas were exchanged that we were astonished how well our dear participants managed to collect data day by day and transform it into useful knowledge, a rather difficult task when the mentor has so much to share! They will definitely have to practice it back home and we hope that will prove useful for future advancements in sailing tactics, trim, sailing strategy and overall IOM class progress. The focus of the whole group was on a high level and not a single day missed fast learning curvatures that had to be taken down with success! The wind was following us as we ordered it just for our Masterclass RC sailing event, weather was classical summer in Croatia, warm, sunny, all day shorts. Of course, we had to use one day of pause from learning in order to cool our heads a little bit. That was used for general relaxation and free excursion day with excellent domestic food. Our dear participants also played a local game called “balote” (a type of traditional bowling) which are all about a steady hand, concentration, focus and relaxation, all useful capabilities to have in IOM sailing as well! The table was plentiful as we went to our secret tavern which has amazing traditional Croatian lunch: local soul replenishing soup, fresh salad picked from a nearby garden, homemade meat roast and potatoes on the wooden fire and dessert with traditional Croatian pancakes with homemade jam. Of course, everything is better when accompanied by local wine from hills just a couple of hundred meters away…all in all, relaxing day full of socialising, our cofounders Josip and Zvonko enjoyed accompanying our dear guests in local woods for some fresh air and this day really powered batteries to the whole group so that we could all continue and keep up the good tempo on the following days.

Throughout our class, we shared many insights into how we achieved top results in the world of RC sailing and we explore the origins of our passion for high-quality RC sailboats within the IOM class. Because of the nice diversity within the IOM class which has many manufacturers, we decided to have an open registration form for all IOM designs and we lowered the initial price for 1st generation which was welcomed in sunny Split, but we will see what will the future event bring in those fields as some changes will be there for sure. But, there were so many great memories we will carry with us for a long time, most importantly, we managed to meet new friends which are constantly proving to be a true cornerstone of our Sailboat RC global family!
