VISS Hull – Designed & Crafted by Sailboat RC

VISS hull is completely designed & crafted by Sailboat RC with all of our expertise from our highly specialised RC sailing production facilities at a singular location in Split, Croatia (made in the EU).

There are no other companies or individuals who manufacture our designs except us. We also do not use “multiple different sites”.

Our IOM hulls are made from plain and twill weave ultra-light woven fiberglass and premium quality materials. We focus on supreme performance and state-of-the-art craftsmanship that lasts for many years.

Our hulls will not let you down even after a decade. This is one reason why even second-hand Sailboat RC boats are so highly praised and wanted.

Advanced Vacuum Bagging Technology

We craft our hulls by utilizing advanced vacuum bagging methodology. This ensures an optimized stiffness-to-weight ratio and significantly enhances the structural longevity of Sailboat RC IOM hulls.

This highly tested and already proven technology is recognizable through our distinct patterns on the interior fibreglass fabric. You can see these patterns within our International One Metre (IOM) hulls.

Also, you are assured that our craftsmen build your VISS by hand. Every detail is a mix of art and science.

Such intricate construction gives the hull great resistance to indentations, even under manual hand pressure. It also maintains structural integrity under rigorous regatta conditions worldwide through decades.

Hull Construction Details

Also, all the IOM hulls that we manufacture include the following:

• Precise bonding, ensuring that the core’s adhesion to the facing is structurally robust. This minimizes imperfections from potential voids.
• Consistent pressure application, mitigating the risks of putty pooling or regions deficient in putty due to uneven clamping forces.
• Absolute adherence of the core to facings, optimizing the hull structure’s inherent mechanical attributes.

Magnetic Pivot Line System

Magnetic Pivot Line System: Old “wire attachment” systems are outdated. We use a more advanced magnet line system instead.

It ensures precision, easier everyday usage, durability and seamless performance.

Large Hatch & Optimized Access

Large Hatch & Optimized Access: VISS features a spacious lid opening. It allows easy access to electronics and rapid humidity evaporation.

There is no need for extra openings. Therefore, the hull remains watertight while maintenance and daily IOM sailing become easier.

This design also helps prolong the longevity of your electronics.

Specialized Internal Electronics Pot

Specialized Internal Electronics Pot: Instead of unattractive Velcro or similar solutions, VISS incorporates a custom-fitted internal pot.

It provides extra protection against water, neat organization and an eye-pleasing, clean professional finish inside the hull.

Decades-Lasting Bumper Technology

Decades-Lasting Bumper Technology: The VISS bumper is built to last for decades, completely eliminating the need for replacements.

Exceptional impact resistance, chemistry and longevity mean there is no need for spare bumpers on our webshop at all. It is that durable, yes.

Go ahead and look. You will not find a spare bumper on our webshop.

Also, our construction technology gives you perfect alignment of the bumper and hull. Therefore, you do not need to sand or polish excess material around the bumper after receiving your new hull.

We tailor it completely for your bow. This ensures top-notch hydrodynamics when punching through water during a regatta.

Just slide your finger over the edges and you will see what we are talking about! There are many details one needs to check on IOM sailboats. This is just one of many.

No-Paint Gelcoat Hull Technology

We make the outer hull shell surface with a pigmented UP-based gelcoat during production.

This ensures an excellent connection between the gelcoat layer and the epoxy laminate. Moreover, it protects our VISS hull from environmental influences and harmful UV radiation.

Pigmented UP and epoxy gelcoat are used rather than paint. This means we do not paint our hull with a spray gun at all, as many manufacturers do.

The main advantages are:

• The outer shell surface is hard & resistant, while the hydrodynamically smooth surface is easier to maintain during the boat’s lifetime.
• Gelcoat helps the hull shell retain its original shape. It performs better than a layer of primer and/or paint, which also adds unnecessary weight.
• Scratches over time are less visible with our improved “no-paint” IOM hull craftsmanship technology.
• Repairs are straightforward. Pigmented epoxy resin filler in cracks solves problems efficiently. We also send a small paint sample with each hull for free!
• Easy restoration of the original surface finish by means of simple wet sanding and polishing.
• Easy removal of Dacron self-adhesive patches without accidentally peeling deck surface paint.

Optimized Electronics & Steering

The VISS IOM sailboat already has our optimized IOM winch installed, with a self-tensioning spiral drum.

It also includes a high-quality rudder servo, depending on the options you select when ordering this IOM yacht on our webshop.

Sailboat RC also manages our servo/tiller connector with carbon tube within the hull. This offers precise steering even under the harshest conditions on the water.

Advanced Interior Sheeting Setup

Our advanced interior sheeting setup offers very specific sailing capabilities.

Sailboat RC IOM sailboats are well known for their ability to perform excellent “power jibes”. We install the complete advanced sheeting setup inside the hull.

This way, we resolve many issues for you. No ropes from our system remain visible on the hull deck, all is safely stored within your hull making more effective usage of internal hull space no matter that this is more complex production process – we focus on what is important for you as sailor who will compete for years to come.

This Sailboat RC internal sheeting system helps us:

• Tremendously increase the aesthetic look of your IOM sailboat because no ropes or other sheeting fittings hang outside the hull.
• Reduce the chances of entanglement during contact. This also lowers the possibility of another boat hooking your ropes and damaging rigs or sails.
• Lower your sheeting sun / UV exposure.
• Decrease your sheeting salt exposure.
• Enable less friction throughout the sheeting system. The ropes do not soak in water or get pushed by waves.
• Reduce contact with other sailors’ booms or floating debris such as weed, thin plastic parts or dirt.

All sheeting and braid setup uses premium sheeting rope / material made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene.

Clean Deck Design

Mainsheet post is removed completely. We reduce drag and further improve hull aesthetics because nothing unnecessary sticks outside your hull deck.

A set of black deck patches is the default option. However, you can select different colors upon custom request.

VISS Fin, Rudder & Bulb

Sailboat RC created the fin together with our updated VISS rudder. This new VISS Sailboat RC design uses triaxial fibreglass carbon weave.

The bulb is made in a precise metal mould with carbon or fibreglass outer shell reinforcement options. You can select your preferred option.

We also offer extra customization with coatings and colors.

We mount the fin/bulb and rudder using purposely made jigs for highly correct alignment with the hull.

The extremely tight grip ensures “no wobble” issues and high performance for many years to come.

Our construction of fins, hull inserts and appendages helps prevent performance loss over time. This becomes especially important after years of sailing and when reselling our IOMs on the secondary market.

AeroWhite monoSRC™ Sails

All three suits of sails use our special “AeroWhite” materials.

Our world-renowned Sailboat RC monoSRC™ A, B & C sails use single-ply 3D shaping on our own moulds.

We do not cut sail material and glue it back into one piece. Instead, we use a professional innovative sail-making machine.

It automates sail manufacturing, reduces the chances of human error and increases both precision and manufacturing speed.

An official IOM measurer signs and dates the sails. We also add the IOM insignia for you.

Therefore, you only need to officially measure your hull in your country with your NCA. If you need paperwork, email us afterwards.

Complete VISS Rigs

We mount the sails on meticulously built rigs with reduced need for prebend.

They also feature a special carbon vang tailored to perfectly fit the VISS hull and increase overall sailing performance. Sailboat RC vang has advanced design that enables you a superior performance with simply brilliant main boom control (long neck = much more precision and power control!) which is needed for IOM class sailboats in many sailing conditions worldwide.

Our IOM “SmartShroud” system gives you advanced trimming possibilities for your rigs. You can use them at many IOM regattas worldwide and across different sailing conditions.

Leakage Testing & Quality Control

We test our IOM RC sailboats for leakage and complete quality control (QC) before delivery.

This way, we try to eliminate any possible worries before shipping.
